If you have seen round marks on someone’s back, or glass cups on a shoulder, you have seen cupping. It is one of the tools we use every week, and it is easy to feel unsure about it the first time.

What it is

Cupping uses suction cups placed on the skin. The suction lifts and releases tight tissue so the muscle underneath can let go.

What a session looks like

We start by talking about where you hurt and what you want to change. Then your therapist places the cups on the areas that need attention and explains what they are doing as they go. You tell us how it feels the whole time.

What you may notice afterward

Many people see round marks afterward. They tend to fade over several days. Tell your therapist about any medication or skin condition before we start.

Who it can help

People with tight shoulders and backs, athletes between events, and anyone whose muscles feel stuck. If you are not sure, ask. We will tell you honestly whether cupping is right for you.
